Bombing of Yugoslavia by Nato, Declaration of Independence. Different point of views in media about main events in Balkans in last 20 years. Speech in Gazimestan
Members : Mateusz, Monika, Nemanja, Ivan, Martina, Ana J, Oliver
We want to present main events in the Balkans in last 20 years.
But not only historical background , but the main aim of our project is trying to discribe what are media thinking (in diffrent countries of the world like USA, Russia, Serbia) and how does the media create public opinion about these cases.
The Conclusion of the research is:
The speech in Gazimestan caused a wave of dissatisfaction and threatened the USA and UK media about future of Kosovo, trying to convince a public opinion about support Albanian Kosovars. But at that time the world was thinking about other eventful cases in the world, e.g. war in Persian Gulf (operation desert's storm).

comments and questions from the audience during the presentation
- Interesting... I learned something new
- This project is based on great research but it isn't good. There is no aim, no point, just great historical knowledge.
- What was the attitude of the Serbian media? I couldn't see it clearly from your research because you ware focused on the UK and USA media.
- Which was the importance of media in what happened in Kosovo?
- Do you think Russia had an important impact in the problem Kosovo?
- Very good and brave presentation, interesting topic which gives you deeper understanding of some problems.
- Where were the other group members= What happened in the process that so few present?
- I was thinking why don't you mention Russia's opinion about Kosovo independence because you've had members from Russia in your team.
- How is one speech supposed to be representative for all the Balkan materials? I found the media comments insufficient and the analyses was not conducted in my opinion.
- It was hard to find a relation between your presentation and the approaches and topics discussed during the YOI. Especially how are you implicated in your research and what purpose does it have?
- What has been dynamic in your group - dynamic in between group members?
- What are the sources you used in your research and what was the criteria to choose them?
- Who benefits from your research?
- Can you imagine / think of any other approach in research of your theme?
- No questions, but I think that the presentation has a lot of information and that is good, but since the presentation has historical informations, maybe they should make some presentations on internet, to make the topic more interesting, it is interesting, just to make it more interesting!
- Great to look at angles. Would have been very useful to apply questions from "Group-Group" in further investigations? In whose interest?
- You should have considered as crucial information provided by Kosovo media and Serbian media as well.
- Information could be used from experts ot only from Serbia but also from Kosovo. I mean experts on analysts that analyze the media and the public opinion.
- very careful when you use historical facts.
- too many sources and informations
- The aim seems to retell the story and to repeat the historical facts. The point of view - only UK and US. One could wonder where is the rest part of the people who were doing Russia, Serbia and why it was not presented?
Questions for you...
This was a difficult subject to combine and present. You showed strengths in your management of research structure along a concrete timeline. Here are some further questions to help you strengthen your approach from here:
What are the sources for your research? How are they validated as scholarly critical? Do your sources or any of you address these critical questions?:
Who influences the media owners in these countries? What are their interests? Does their interest affect their story? Does this matter? Why or why not? What will you do with this information? If Kosovo does not deserve independence, what actions would you therefore call for? Will different interests react differently tot he information you have created? What will they say? How will you address them? Whose interests will they serve? Do these interests play a role in how media portray the independence? If so, how? Does this affect your research or claims? How so? If the United States has played a large role in this situation, whose interests does the US government serve? How do you know? In general, whose interests are served by these media outlets? Show your data to support your claims.
