GENDER AND GENDER EQUALITY faciltator: Danko Markovic

Two 3 hour sesions in morning and afternoon. Number of students is about 20 people in one group.
GENDER - refers to socially constucted roles, behaviours, activities that a given society considers appropriate for men and women.
SEX - refers to the biological and physiological characteristics that define men from women.
Musculine and feminine are gender categories, while male and female are sex categories.
*Exercise:defining sex of two candidates,and separate them from gender caracteristics.
*Game:The name of the game is "Boxes".Students devide in two groups, male and female, and discuss about masages that they got from society during growing up on themes "Act like a lady" and "Be a man".Discusion about the game.
SEXSIZM - gender based violence.
def: Way of social discrimination of a person based on his sex. Main victams are women, so sexsizm can be defined as a group of beleivings and actings which privileges men among women, so underastimate value and activities connected with women.
By the UN statistics:
- women do 67% of world labor
- earning 10% of world incom
- own 1% of world possession
- women make 70% of the unlettered
- around the world women earn 20%-50% less for one work than men do
- of 1,3 billion people who live in poverty 70% are women
- women obtain 10% of places in parlament
- 5% of presidents are women
In EU:
- women do 80% of house work even if they have permanent job
- women spend TWICE much time taking care of the childrenthan men do
- for the same job women are payed 25% less than men
- 20% of women had xperience some way of gender based violance
- 98% of family violence victams are women
GENDER EQUALITY - meens that men and women enjoy same status and have equall conditions for realization of their potentials so that they contribute to political, economical and cultural development of their countries.
In Second session students are devided in four groups talking about the gender equality problem they chosed, finding the resolution to that problem and in the end present the work of the group to the all students.
