yoi08 research group : The Justicers

Integration of Roma People into Society
Members: Veronica, Ramona, Mihai, Larry, Cosmin

Our project aims to attempt to work together with Roma community in our society as alias in their efforts to win equal rights in society and equal value of a space for their traditions.
First we are going to find some partners (especially organizations that deal with Roma people) and then establish together the objectives, the methodology in order to obtain the results we all expect.

We want to present main events in the Balkans in last 20 years.
But not only historical background , but the main aim of our project is trying to discribe what are media thinking (in diffrent countries of the world like USA, Russia, Serbia) and how does the media create public opinion about these cases.

What is the public opinion around neonazism and how to influence that?

We wanted to do a through research of the media in various countries (Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Poland, Lithuania), but we decided to focus on wikipedia which we found representative for public opinion. The second source was interviewing other YOI participants from the chosen countries. Based on the research we came up with a conclusion that the term “neonazism” is defined and understood differently in different countries.

Material Conditions of Refugees from Kosovo

The Project “Reintegration of refugees, IDPs and returnees” aims to develop new approaches and generate new ideas in order to highlight possible potentitals of refugees, IDPs and returnees in Serbia. Due to injustices we noticed while visiting the refugees and IDPs camp in Kragujevac we find it important to hardly work on the continous reinteration of those groups of people into society.

yoi08 research group: Gender Inequality in Refugee Camps

My project is about gender inequality. First I want to find information about the position of women in Serbian society and the position of women in refugee camps from Kosovo. Then I want to find solutions on how to organize women on a local level first in my city Nis. I researched women’s unemployment and inequality of women. The aim of this research is to show inequality is wrong, justice is missing in the discussion of this topic.

Creation of the toolkit for the construction of one’s opinion

Taking Kosovo as a case study we gathered the information from governments, media, people and ourselves (Balkans, USA, EU, Russia, China) to compare it, ask different questions, discuss and critically evaluate it. We started with a hypothesis that in every situation interests and subjectivity play an important role. Our goal was to find a toolkit for the construction of one’s own opinion that can help us to evaluate and have a standpoint in similar situations as Kosovo case.

How to organize a youth club
Members: Kris, Sanja, Georgi, Tamara, Simona, Gligor, Sase

In our project we defined the proces of forming and organizing the youth centre. We were dealing with phases of forming the goals of a centre, sharing the work obligations within the members of a club and the process of performing activities. We also preformed interwievs with organizers of different youth cloubs and we made comparisons beetwen the different ways of organizing.
The aim of our research was to clarify the basic procedure every youth center has to go through during its forming phase.

yoi08 research group: Youth Organizing I - Minorities

How to include minorities in a youth club
Members: Sanja, Stevica, Tom, Tanja

Our group is making a research of different approaches towards organizing Youth Centers and involving the young people in those centers. We made a round tabe and other additional interviews of the YOI people based on issues of motivating, organizing young people, applicable examples of how to improve your work in the Youth Centers. All the information will be summarized in one brochure and will be spread among the YOI people and will be attached on the YOI web site. In this way we want to help people and give them new interesting ideas and advices of how to activate the youth people in their communities and fight against discrimination of any kind.

Project "Nation as Problem or Solution – Historical Revisionism in Serbia" was started with purpose to find answers on questions about role of national problems and nationalism in contemporary Europe, their manifestations in post-Yugoslav area, role and influence of revisionist tendencies in contemporary Serbian society. What is the perspective of young generations, which was raised in environment marked by domination of prejudices, national exclusivity and intolerance?
